Madi N

Yesterday (April 15) My Grade did the "We Are Silent" mission project to raise awareness and donations for children who do not have a voice. (Children who don't have a say in what will happen for them now, and in the future.) The vow was to not talk for a 24 hours. If we did, anyone who saw it would put a tally on a big piece of paper. That paper was on the wall by our classroom. It was hard because if more than one person saw you speak even a single word, there would be a bunch of tallies put on the paper. There were also some people who just put tallies for the fun of it, or put more than one when they saw one of us talk. Us being frustrated about that was part of the mission project because there are many kids who would get hurt if they said anything against what they are told. My teacher told us that if we get mad about it, we should think about why we are doing this. Some girls get shot just for wanting to go to school. There are boys that are forced into a child army to fight. There are even some girls who have to marry and have children very young. We all tried really hard.
After school was over, I had to go to dance with my friend. We gave a note to our teacher saying what we were doing. My teacher said it was a really great thing for us to do. She asked everyone who was dancing to stay silent as well to support us. It was really helpful and I managed to push through all 24 hours.
