Athens

I think that athens was not fair because half  the population were not citizens and  half of that were slaves to. To become a citizen both your parents have to be a citizen. In order to vote you must be a full citizen. I really disagree with the way the treated women, women were not slaves but they were treated close to them. The Greeks thought that they were possessed by demons and were evil so they were always covered in clothing.

Is it fair!

No I do not think it is only people that are consider as citizens  are  men who have passed military training. If it was fair I think everybody should have a vote. But sometimes if everybody has a right things could go wrong and sometimes it could end up with someone extremely crazy. As well if everybody has a right to vote someone that is sick or is going to have a new member in the family or has a new member in the family they might not always want to go sometimes they just want to stay home and stay covered so they can get better or stay home with the new member of the family. So I was thinking that maybe a good idea was to pass the piece paper around and you could write down your vote or anything that needs to be brought up that you disagree with you could just leave it in the comment box that would be on the piece paper and could be brought up over the next meeting. That is my point of view on what I think if democracy was fair in Athens.

Haydens Awsome Spectacular Amazing Blog Post

Athenian democracy is not fair in my opinion.  1 in 3 people were slaves and most women were slaves.  Slaves were bought and sold most people referred to them as man footed things.  I don't think its fair because everyone should be treated equal and that its not illegal to have a slave.  Slaves were not sold on the Black Market they're sold right on the spot for whatever price the owner asked for.  They called people who didn't participate idiote's from which we get are word idiot.  Athenians had a word for politicians which is Orater.  Most slaves began their life as men and women but were forced into a life of manual labor and became prisoners of war they were bought and sold and separated from there family's. It wasn't only slaves nine tenths of the population were unable to vote.

Athens democracy- FAIR or UNFAIR?

I personally do not think the Athens democracy was fair. Sure Athens citizens had a fair chance of having their voice heard or becoming a leader. But the chance to become a citizen was low. You had to be a male over 20 with military training and both your parent and you had to be Athen. That disqualifies a lot of people.
The women, medics and slaves were free but weren’t citizens. They couldn’t vote or own property or participate in politics. They were free but had there restrictions.
One of three people were slaves and under 24 hour surveillance. Also most people lived happy free lives before war. And none of the slaves could do anything about it because those people could not be heard by the government since they are not citizens.

In conclusion I do not think that Athens democracy system is fair. I feel they do not have a fair chance of being in the government. The women and slaves were not treated properly. Therefore I feel Athens democracy was not fair.

Fair or Not Fair

                Athenian Democracy By:Nicole

To say that Athenian Democracy was fair you would not be correct nor wrong example. To be a citizen you had to born in Athens and so did your Father and Mother to be able to vote and get treated fairly bit if you were a woman and you were born in Athens and so were your parents you would not be able to vote and if you married your husband would decide who you would be seen by so to not get seen by any one you would your tunic over you face. The message being sent out is your husband owns you and he is in charge of you. If you were a slave you were not able to vote because if you were a slave you were usually taken slave in war so you most likely wouldn’t be born in Athens and you r parent wouldn’t either and you would be sent to camps that would have full watch over you all the time. And that’s why Athenian Democracy is not fair it might be for men who were born in Athens and your parents but it was not fair to women our slaves.

Equality in Athens by Abbie

                             Equality in Athens by Abbie
1/3 of Athens were slaves
9/10 of Athens were barred from voting
Woman we're not equal
Athens was not a fair democracy because only citizens could vote which are men because woman were not equal that means they could not vote they also had to persuade people. It was not very fair because the slaves had to sleep right under the watch towers. I think it was kind of fair because not all the rich people would always be in charge so instead they make it fair by choosing the people randomly. I have not chosen whether or not it is fair or not fair I think it is more unfair because there is a lot of slaves and woman were not equal me over the age of 20 and have been in the army and born in Athens  were considered citizens so even the woman who were born in Athens did not get to vote

Renee's Opinion On Why Athenian Democracy Wasn't Fair

I think that Athenian democracy wasn't fair because only very few people could vote for very specific reasons. Only men who were over the age of 20, born in Athens, and whose parents were born in Athens, and whose parents were born in Athens could vote and be part of democracy. It was not fair that women, slaves and people men that weren’t born in Athens could not be part of democracy and vote. I don’t think that woman were treated very fairly because they couldn’t be seen and they weren’t treated as a person. Going back to the people that weren’t allowed to vote or be part of democracy it also wasn’t fair that they weren’t considered a citizen. I think that everyone that lives in one place should be considered a citizen because they live there and that is their community. I think that democracy in Athens wasn’t very fair and I think that they should have included more people in democracy and treated everyone with the same respect.

Athens Democracy

I think that Athens democracy was not far one bit first of all  most of the the people were slaves. The way that you did't become a slave was that your mother and your father had to be born in Athens. Also the rulers were chosen by the lottery. The men also thought that women were demons but then there was one girl that they worshiped. also everyone was mad because to be able to get a vote om anything you would have to be rich or have to be in the leaders military. I also thought that there was only around a hundred people would get a say. The worst part in my opinion  the worst part was that slaves started out having a good life but then they were forced into slavery by the military. this reasons are the reason i do not think that Athens democracy was far.

The Athens story

So in the Athens they made a lot of people slaves. Before the man and woman were free and then they forced a lot of people they chose to be a slave. They believe that the women possessed by demons and spirits. the Athens also made every single women in the city cover their face. The Athens called they people who didn't participate in the democracy idiots. The people were forced to be a slave when they became a prisoner of war. They were separated from their family's and the Greek people referred to the people as man footed things. Also a married woman is the possession of the man. They woman were treated so terribly and most of the men too. Although there  was on girl named Pathol the Greeks praised her as a goddess. In return she would give them her voice and her sweet words. So I guess that there was at least one girl who got treated okay. Thank you for reading. :)

171 word post for Athens law by luke

to miss Swark; here is the rest of my Athens report.
I think that Athens law was not fair I think this because they did not make any woman or people who didn't have parents who where both born in the state city Athens citizens. If you where not a citizen then you could not vote or basically do any thing because you had to be a slave and do all the hard heavy work that the Athens citizens didn't want to do and I think that is unfair because every one matters the same
I also think think this is unfair because the Athens men only worshiped this one woman named python who was worshiped as a goddess because the men thought that if they would worship her then she would give them the gift of good speech and sweet words.
If I was born a slave I would agree with this because I would not like to be a slave for life.
This is why I think Athens law is unfair.

A Word With Mickey

Not only were the Athens a democracy that used certain people as slaves but they also didn't let many people be an actual citizen. All people started out free but many ended up being sold as slaves for other people of higher ranking. The men/boys believed that women/girls were possessed and were demonic creatures. The Athens also called the people who didn't participate idiotays. Women were treated very poorly in the Athens and other city/states. So I believe that the Athens was a city/state of people that were not equal but equity and that people were mistreated in many different ways. Woman use to have to cover their face and body and only let their eyes show out of their clothing. Also woman were only allowed to show themselves to their husband. Now in my opinion the way woman were treat was truly terrible and that woman should not be treated like that ever in the course of history and that woman should never have to be treated like that ever in their life.

That’s what I have to say, I’m Mickey I’ll see you later, Bye!

Eli's post

I think that Athenian democracy was not fair because they barely let anyone vote for what they wanted and they thought that women had to be restrained. The only people aloud to vote had to be in the military. And the people who were chosen to be the leaders were picked by a lottery instead of being chosen by skill and ability. I think that it was especially unfair because the people who should have been voting were being slaves. Over 1000 people were slaves, that is not fair. Voting is probably the most important part of democracy because that is the way that people made decisions. The government was also not very nice because they told people who did not participate in democracy (practically everyone) idiots. My final word is that the Athens idea of democracy was not fair in almost any way. Athens may have been a powerful city-state but they did not have a fair democracy. That is my opinion.

Women were under estimated, they were considered property to who they were married to. Not that the typical slave life was any better, witch it was not. The Athens were very sloppy since they knew the slaves would just clean up after them. Now this seems pretty unfair but the voting was only worse, the only people who were aloud to vote were citizens but only men could have citizen rights that means that women, children and slaves could not have citizen rights, but it was not enough to be a man born in Athens no, no, no both the mans parents had to be born in Athens in order for them to have citizen rights. Because of all the reasons above I personally think that Athens said they were fair but they really were not fair at all. I think that if they wanted to make it fair they could start with treating women equally to men and not capture people and say ''okay I caught you now your mine,'' this is what I think about and Athens I hope you will consider what I have said about the Athens.

Is Athenian democracy fair? By Kate

In part one of our project we watched a video on how the Athenians created direct democracy to be extremely fair. It emphasized the fact that the man that won the war was the man who let everyone join him. Then, in this videos it talks about how things weren't as fair as we thought they would be. For our direct democracy on the island we wanted everyone to vote no matter what. So when we started to study Athenian democracy we thought it would be similar. When we watched the video though we realized things were quite different. The Athenians had slaves who were very mistreated and they believed women were evil demons! So obviously they couldn't vote. I think it is unfair that the slaves and women couldn't vote, but I see what the Athenians are thinking. They thought that the slaves were now less than a man and that, once again, women were demons. Would you let someone vote if you thought they were a demon? So I think that Athenian democracy is fair just based on their beliefs.

Julia's musing

I think that the Athens democracy was not fair at all.

The Athens democracy was wrong it was not fair to the people who lived there, the Athens made the people suffer harsh punishments and the way they wound out if someone is guilty or not was really, really, really not fair.

The government did not know how the people were feeling or how they thought of there government. The Athens government was cruel and they had no idea how the people felt because if the people rose up at the time they would be killed technically.
What I think if I was a Athen I would get together a large group of people and I would rise up against the Athens government and I would hope that it would work and that I saved the people who were suffering and we're being treated bad.The people would be safe and free from all pain and suffering, but not all suffering like money loss or family problems they would just be free of government and what they were doing.
That is what I think of the Athens version of government, not everyone would agree with me just like the project we did but that is what I think and what I would do if I was a Athen citizen.
