In 1918, a man from Quebec was not allowed to sit in a good seat in a theater because he was black. The man also tried to take this problem into court but the judges sided with the theater and said that the theater could decide who got which seat. This was unjust because people should be allowed to sit where they want in a theater regardless of their skin color and he should have acted sooner instead of waiting to take the issue to court. This goes against the equality rights part of the Canadian charter of rights and freedoms. This would not happen today because we now have all these laws in place which would help to prevent something like this from happening again. The theaters are also not as racist today as they were back then. This issue is extremely racist and would not happen today.
