Racial Discrimination
In 1918, a Quebec man was not allowed
to get a seat in a certain area of a theater because he was black. He was
discriminated because of the color of his skin. It is not fair that he was treated
differently just because of the way he was born. The color of someone’s skin shouldn’t
restrict them from doing certain things. It went against the Charter of Rights
and Freedoms because the Equality Rights say that everyone has to be treated
equally, no matter what their religion, gender, or skin color is. I don’t think
that would happen today because even though at that time, Canadians did not
always respect people’s rights and freedoms, but Canada has changed since then.
Everybody should be treated equally, and everyone should respect each other, no
matter what.
